AirPods Pro 2 could double as a heart monitor and hearing aid

It goes without saying that the AirPods Pro 2 will sound better. Uh. But Apple will also add some surprise features to the next generation of its headphones, according to a new leak. This includes heart rate detection and a new hearing aid feature.

Additionally, the charging case will reportedly switch to USB-C, to match reports that the iPhone 15 will drain the Lightning port.

AirPods Pro + AirPods 3 = AirPods Pro 2

AirPods have become an indispensable part of iPhone and Mac usage for many people both at home and at work. And active noise cancellation has helped make the AirPods Pro popular.

But these truly wireless headphones have been on the market since 2019, and there have been significant technological advancements since then. So it’s no surprise that a replacement is expected later this year.

The AirPods Pro 2 will look a lot like the AirPods 3 from 2021, but with the soft tips needed for ANC, according to leaked information at 52audio. This means that the stems will not disappear and the pimples will also remain.

AirPods 3 audio enhancements include “a combination of custom high-amplitude drive units and high dynamic range amplifiers,” according to 52audio.

Upcoming headphones will allegedly offer “self-adaptive” ANC for a better listening experience. And a better processor design will allow for longer battery life.

AirPods Pro: heart rate monitor and hearing aid?

AirPods Pro 2 will sport more than audio enhancements. The headphones will supposedly take advantage of their position in the ear to monitor their wearer’s heart rate. This would be a boon for runners, who wouldn’t need to wear an Apple Watch to benefit from this feature.

It doesn’t come out of nowhere. Suggestions that AirPods will add heart rate monitoring date back to at least 2020. Sensing the wearer’s body temperature is also a possibility.

The AirPods Pro charging case will also get new features, according to 52audio. A built-in microphone will allow the case to work in tandem with the AirPods Pro 2 to act as a hearing aid. The wearer could place the box near the person they are talking to, and the box would receive their speech and send it directly to the wireless headphones.

And the case would apparently support Find My, as if it had a built-in AirTag tracker. If it is misplaced, the user can find the case with his iPhone. A speaker will allow it to play a tone to help locate the device. This is already possible with recent models of AirPods, but it is not.

Speaking of not getting lost, the case would even have a place to thread a loop so it can be attached to something else, like a keychain.

The AirPods Pro 2 are expected to debut later in 2022. Pricing remains unknown at this point.

Whereas 52audio is not well known for Apple leaks, it got 100% accurate AirPods 3 images before the launch of this product.
