Ear Wax Videos on TikTok Make Texas Hearing Aid Center Viral

RICHARDSON, Texas — The Livingston Hearing Aid Center has locations nationwide, including one in Richardson.

But in a place intended for your ears, you won’t believe your eyes.

“It’s a bit of a shock because it’s not something you see every day,” said Dr. Haley Owen, director of audiology.

Most of Livingston’s clients are older, but Dr. Owen said their biggest fans are younger.

This is because Livingston has gained a lot of success on TikTok.

The company page is filled with wax.

Most of the videos show large chunks of wax and other objects being removed from the patient’s ears.

The videos are disturbing and yet for some reason people can’t look away.

Some videos have been viewed over 30 million times. One video even has 80 million views.

“I think there’s a big wow factor in, ‘wow, whatever came out,'” Dr. Owen said. “We don’t get the chance to look in our ears every day, so what’s in there?”

What’s inside is a blood-sucking parasite. Yes, a video shows a live tick removed from a patient’s ear.

Talk about great content for “tick” Tok.

Most videos show a heavy buildup of wax, or what they call a wax occlusion.

It’s not harmful to the patient, but it’s been great for social media.

It also does a lot for the health of the ears.

Owen said most people don’t think about their ears until it’s too late. But these videos bring more awareness and more patients.

“We’ve actually had an increase in people coming in for ear checks,” Dr. Owen said.

So if you find joy in wax, follow Livingston on TikTok.
