Edinburgh Hearing Aid Center

For six decades, this Edinburgh family has been looking after you and your loved ones.

A family that has been at the heart of Edinburgh healthcare for six decades has returned to their original roots.

Since 1969, when David Fairfield and his wife Ella started their business in Stafford Street, a Fairfield has been testing people’s hearing, fitting hearing aids and providing hearing healthcare in the city.

Many years later, his son Stephen (now 55) and daughter Ruth Porteous (59) joined the business, continuing the family tradition of providing exceptional customer service in a warm and friendly setting.

After a brief spell out of the industry, Stephen and Ruth are back with the new Fairfield Hearing brand, operating from the same Stafford Street premises their father started in 1969, with a real sense of coming home .

Stephen says the service gap, coinciding with the pandemic lockdown, showed him how much he missed the hearing sector, and he was excited to start over.

“The Fairfield family has been helping people with their hearing for six decades now,” he said. “Our clients tell us that their parents or grandparents were helped by my last father years ago.

“Ruth and I are thrilled to carry on this family tradition; we truly feel part of Edinburgh’s history and are very happy to look after our guests for years to come.

“Our ears are such a personal thing, we find that people love coming to a family business and appreciate the personal service we provide.”

Proud to be an independent specialist, operating from spacious Georgian premises in Stafford Street, Hearing Healthcare is not tied to any particular manufacturer.

Stephen added: “This means we can always provide exactly the right solution for every customer.”

He is a qualified audiologist with over 30 years of experience and will assess, measure and adapt to the client’s hearing needs, while Ruth is a hearing care practitioner, caring for year-round hearing health, removal and cleaning of the wax to the specialist. imagery.

The practice is located in Stafford Street, just off Shandwick Place in the west of the city, with easy access to buses and trams and good on-street parking.
