How to use Apple AirPods as a hearing aid and even spy on others

If you have an Apple device that is running iOS 14.3 or iPadOS 14.3 or later, your device has a very useful feature. If your AirPods are connected, you can convert your device into a microphone that amplifies conversations around you and transmits them to your AirPods. This feature can be very useful for people who are hard of hearing as it converts your AirPods into hearing aids. With just a few simple steps, you can easily access this feature and add it to your control center for faster access as well. Here’s how to use it.

Step 1: On your iOS device, launch Settings.
2nd step: Find the “Control Center” option and select it.
Step 3: On the next screen, you will see a list of shortcuts already added to Control Center and shortcuts that are not added.
Step 4: Scroll down to find the “Hearing” option with an ear icon and click the green plus icon next to it.
Step 5: Now the “Audition” option should be visible in the “Included controls” section.
Step 6: Tap on the “Settings” option in the upper left corner. The settings should be saved now.
Step 7: Now open the “Control Center” by swiping down from the top right of your screen.
Step 8: Tap the “Hearing” ear icon to toggle live listening.
Step 9: Next, enable Live Listen for the connected audio device, such as AirPods. Once enabled, the audio levels are visible in the pop-up toggle.
Step 1`0: Now place your device in front of the person you want to hear and you should hear their voice loud and clear.

You can also use Live Listen with your wired microphone. Live Listen can also be connected to “Made for iPhone” hearing aids, which offer different ways to control the sound of your hearing aid. The feature can also be misused to spy on conversations by simply leaving your iPhone in a room while hanging out with AirPods.

A similar feature can also be accessed on Android smartphones by downloading Google’s Sound Amplifier app from Play Store.
